The Technology and Research Center, or TFZ, is the heart of the Technopol Wiener Neustadt. The ecoplus holding company (ecoplus Beteiligungs GmbH) has a 74.9% stake and the ifp (Immobilien Freizeit Parken Wiener Neustadt GmbH) holds a 25.10% stake in the TFZ Technologie- und Forschungszentrum GmbH, abbreviated as TFZ GmbH. Located at Viktor Kaplan Strasse 2, the TFZ Gmbh was founded back in 1994 under the name of "TZU Ges.m.b.H."; its mission is the establishment, operation and asset maintenance of a technology center.

The TFZ building was designed by Wilhelm Holzbauer, one of Austria's most renowned architects.

The building boasts a gross floor area of 25,300 m² with 16,000 m² available to let. Because all the building's ultra-modern laboratories and offices were lately occupied, a fourth construction phase to create additional space is under way. To meet the
steady demand for additional space, a custom expansion took place in 2011 to create an additional 1,300 m² (approx. 14,000 f²) space.
Projects housed at the TFZ are for the most part research projects which have been commissioned by national and/or international institutions and other research facilities. Cooperation on an international level – such as the MedAustron Cancer Research Center for Ion Therapy project – is the driving force behind the work carried out here. Local synergistic effects, many of which come about thanks to shared work facilities on site, are equally vital.

The Technology and Research Center Wiener Neustadt continues to be expanded, step by step, to accommodate the needs of its tenants. More than 500 people willl find their employment at the TFZ and the technical wing of the University of Applied Sciences Wiener Neustadt in 2012, and over 350 of these are highly-qualified scientists from over 20 different countries.
