Technopol Wiener Neustadt
Wiener Neustadt: a dynamic location for education, research and business. As far back as 1994, the original TFZ (Technology and Research Center Wiener Neustadt) was opened concurrently with Austria's first University of Applied Sciences. And in 2000, Lower Austria began its technology campaign, which ultimately led to the launch of the Lower Austria Technopol Program in 2004. Since April of 2004, the development of Wiener Neustadt, Tulln, Krems and Wieselburg as Technopol locations has been supported by on-site Technopol management.

Essential criteria for Technopol locations include a tertiary educational offer and locally-established research facilities and companies focusing on a core topic. This is the case at Technopol Wiener Neustadt, where the core competence is medical and materials technologies.
In direct vicinity to the University of Applied Sciences is the TFZ. The TFZ is regularly expanded to accommodate research needs and is currently home to four competence centers (for tribology, electrochemistry, medical technology and the K-Project OptiBioMat). Also nearby is Fotec, the research arm of the University of Applied Sciences; the Austrian Academy of Sciences Institute for Integrated Sensor Systems (IISS); the biomedical systems unit of the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT); the surface technology and material analysis department of the Austrian Research Institute for Chemistry and Technology (ofi) and Attophotonics Biosciences.

A tally of current projects and participants shows just how international the Technopol is. At present, there are over 170 projects involving scientists and partners from around the world; 90 projects with international industrial partners; 130 scientific projects in cooperation with international partners, students from 70 countries attending or working at the Technopol and scientists and researchers from more than 60 different countries. Technopol management is involved in one EU projects, one as lead partner (SMART FRAME).  A total of 17 partners from 14 different countries are participating in these two projects.
High-tech medicine, research, tertiary and continuing education: at Technopol Wiener Neustadt, these three interconnected sectors augment each other ideally. Another defining characteristic of the Technopol is its supraregional cooperation with industry, academic organizations, and scientific institutions.
