Wiener Neustadt and Surrounding Areas
In Wiener Neustadt it has been possible to turn a historic (founded in 1194) and industrial city into a modern, blossoming site for business, research and education.
With more than 40,000 inhabitants, Wiener Neustadt is the most important city in southeast Lower Austria. It is a center for government and civil servants and is the second most important shopping city in the province. And it is the province's most important city for schools and the military in addition to being a place of great significance for industry, trade and research.
What makes the city even more attractive to companies is its optimal infrastructure and ease of access to means of transportation. It is located directly on the major A2 autobahn as well as the S4 and S6 highways and is near the A21 autobahn. The Southern Railway line runs through Wiener Neustadt and an ÖBB freight depot is also located here. Last but not least, there is the Wiener Neustadt airfield to round out the offer.
The region also offers a high quality of life, with countless recreational opportunities: golf courses, tennis courts, riding arenas, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, hiking and cycling paths. The mountainous area to the south formed by the Schneeberg, Rax and Hohe Wand is ideal for climbing, paragliding and hang-gliding. For winter sports fans, the Semmering area offers downhill, cross-country and even night skiing; Neusiedler Lake in nearby Burgenland is a popular sailing, surfing and cycling region, and is also a stunning national park to boot.
Cultural mecca and capital Vienna is not far away, but there is also the small yet impressive cultural program offered in nearby Baden (the "Biedermeier city"); Wiener Neustadt's own city theater; and the largest event center in Lower Austria, the Arena Nova.
