The TFZ Wiener Neustadt is home to three competence centers which employ over 350 highly-qualified scientists. Areas of focus in R&D encompass the field of modern industrial technologies:

• tribology (friction, wear, lubrication)
  
• medical technology
  
• sensory technology and actuators
  
• surfaces.
  

In each of the areas listed above, at least three different research facilities are active, each employing more than 30 scientists.
